Newport, Rhode Island
Newport is located on the island for which Rhode Island is originally named. It has been the summer getaway for the rich and famous for centuries and is also the self-proclaimed sailing capital of the world. Enjoy our home away from home by land or by sea.

Castle Hill Light
Located at the end of Ocean Drive, this stout granite light was built in 1890 and still is operated by USCG. The grounds is beautiful, and we took a nap the first time we went. It also serves to delineate the beginning of the official Atlantic Ocean.

The Inn at Castle Hill
This 40 acre property is where we will have a lunch the day after the wedding ceremony. Enjoy the sweeping views of the Narragansett Bay. Sunset offers more than you can know.

Newport Cliff Walk
This 3.5 mile trail is designated nationally and offers surreal views the whole way. It's known simply as "The Cliff Walk" as you truly walk directly beside the ocean. When seas are rough, it's possibly to have some sea spray. About two-thirds of the walk are easily accesible, with the latter portion being rocky and unpaved. Begin at the Northern end for easy walking. Take pictures along the way of all the mansions too!

Kaffeology
Our favorite coffeehouse is located on Thames Street, which is part of the shopping walk. We recommend the milky way latte -hot or iced- and the Newporter sandwich - a bagel with lox and all the fixings. Be warned though: this sandwich is extremely messy.

Ben and Jerry's on the Wharf
Ben & Jerry's is a real brick and mortar store in New England. Visit their location on either Bannister's Wharf or on Thames Street. Definitely get a fresh waffle cone to enjoy with it. We like to sit on the Adirondack chairs just past the shop and look at the harbor.

Newport Mansions
Hailed by the rich and famous, Newport was the home of THE Vanderbuilt family. They built their "summer cottage" here as did many others during the guilded age. Even today, names like Jay Leno, Judge Judy, and Taylor Swift have addresses here. Visit the historic mansions for a self guided tour. You have never seen this level of fanciful decoration before - some rooms have platinum wallpaper.

Take a Sail on the Schooner Madeleine
This 72 foot two-masted sailing yacht is our favorite. On the day after the ceremony we will be taking a sail aboard her as we cruise through the bay. If the winds are especially good, we might even reach the open ocean. What we enjoy so much about this boat is that all you will hear is the wind. There is a real magic about cutting through the water without the sound of diesel in the background.

Feel the wind in you hair on The Rum Runner
This 1929 prohibition-era yacht is powered originally by three Liberty aircraft engines - to outrun the Coast Guard! Now you can ride aboard for a tour of the bay complete with drinks and music. The captain will pilot the boat full-ahead to show you the power of it's current twin 350HP Caterpillar diesels.
